Chapter 29 Monday, Nov 19 2007

Alexia fidgeted uncomfortably, her fingers tugging impatiently at the too tight stays of her corset. She was awaiting the dressmaker and had sent a fussing Lucy down to get her.

In truth she wanted to avoid getting her hair pinned up as long as possible. Lucy was tight with her stays but her pins were killer pains. She didn’t think her poor scalp could take them for long.

Suzette hadn’t gone very far. Only down to fetch her basket of essentials from the wagon. There were a few last minute touches needed to her dress.

The heavy brocade velvet was lined with soft silk. The whole of the gown was overlaid with heavy golden lace, giving it a golden glow and small diamonds interspersed through out the design caused it to shine in the candlelight.

The dress was magnificent and heavy.

It was so heavy and cumbersome that she would need both Lucy and Suzette’s assistance to put it on, so she waited now for their return.

She sighed loudly then winced as the corset restricted the movement.

“Now don’t go busting out of your stays.” Lucy said as she entered the room, a heavily pregnant Suzette waddling in after her.

Alexia smiled in relief as they began fussing over her dress.

Standing she watched them expectantly. After a moment, seeing as they seemed to be ignoring her she cleared her throat and asked. “Well…is it time now?”

They both stopped what they were doing and glancing first at each other then her, they grinned. “Aye milady it is.” Suzette said.

Alexia nodded and her smile faltered a bit. “I am ready…I think,” she said.

She took a step toward them, her face paling suddenly. They both caught her before she fell.

Dimitri paced the small antechamber of the private chapel. In a short while he and Alexia would be wed and soon after that they’d be crowned the new King and Queen of Cornwall.

He started to run a hand through his hair, a nervous habit he’d picked up, when he caught the look of mirth in his best friends face.

Lewen could barely contain his merriment at the sight of his usually coolheaded friend all a flutter with nervousness. All over a Simple matter of marriage.

Before he could get in a few good ribs the door opened up admitting Corrine and Suzette.

Dimitri barely glanced at the seamstress, only noting that her hugely distended belly seemed to precede her into the room. Instead he focused his attention on Corrine and felt his nervousness lessen at her reassuring smile. “You’ll do fine,” she whispered for his ears only as she flicked an imaginary spec from his tunic, her hands smoothing the heavy golden brocade over his shoulders.

“But what if I’m not a good husband?” his eyes searched hers looking for the comfort she’d always been there to give him as a child when he awoke from fire filled nightmares.

Smiling into his eyes her own filled with happy pride tears she said, “You will be a wonderful husband and a great King.”

The love shimmering in her eyes spilled over and he pulled her into a tight hug. All she said was said out of love but he believed her. Her belief in him was all that he needed to make him be the man she raised him to be.

They’re brief moment was interrupted by a knock on the door.

Lewen, who until now had sat unobtrusively in a corner of the room, was eager to escape the emotions and jumped up to answer the door.

“Yes, what is it?” He peered through the portal at the handsome young monk standing there.

Brother Donovan stood just inside the portal and nodded in greeting to all. “Father Parish is ready to begin. He asks that you take your places.” His soft-spoken voice was barely heard above the chatter coming from the filled chapel. All the nobility had been invited and from the sounds of it, they’d all accepted and arrived.

Lewen nodded and glanced sideways over at Dimitri who was being inspected by the seamstress. Satisfied he was in no need of her she stepped back and he exited the room Lewen close on his heels.

Chapter 28 Sunday, Nov 18 2007

The great hall had been greatly improved during the Lords courtship. It’s as if with his lifted mood, the air about the manor brightened and Corrine took full advantage of his new improved mood and malleable personality.

She took it upon herself to make the manor “fit for a lady”.

A full staff of new servants had been hired, as the old ones were all gone after the fire that long ago day.

Only Corrine and the old gardener had remained, though now he was on in years and his son had taken over care of the plants. Coming over daily to help with the upkeep he left most of the work to the housekeeper.

With news of a new lady coming to the manor he and his father had gotten out to the house and helped to construct a beautiful garden for the Lady to sit in. “A queens garden!” he’d proclaimed and indeed it was. Roses of every color bloomed in the center of a circular walkway of bleached gravel. Poppies of red blue and purple lined the walkway and a large well-manicured hedge surrounded the hole of it.

Inside the house the changes were just as beautiful. The stone floors were scrubbed and the fireplace cleaned out and repaired.

The tapestries and area carpets were beaten and aired out. Some repaired painstakingly by hand before being laid out and hung up.

The old furniture that had survived the fire was dusted off and polished until it shown. A shipment of furniture was received just days before the new lady arrived and Corrine was happy to finally renovate the master bedroom suite. Though it had been repaired after the fire, it had stood empty these many years, as Dimitri had preferred to stay in his old room.

Now he would stay here and until the wedding, Alexia would reside in his old chamber.

With their guests’ arrival imminent, Corrine ran around making last minute touches to the manor. She purchased new vases from Sherpel Imports, filling them with fresh flowers and placing them throughout the great hall to lend their sweet smelling fragrance to the room.

The most prominent change though was the piano that now sat to one side of the hall.

Though unobtrusive to most, it was the first change Dimitri himself noticed or reacted to in any way.

Corrine had had it tuned and repaired. The wood was polished until it shone, and a painter had added golden accents to it, making it look new.

At first she had worried he wouldn’t like what she had done. In fact, upon seeing it he’d turned and stormed from the room.

Later that night; however, she’d been in the garden when she heard the light tinkling of the keys, playing a melody that was at once familiar and yet so vague.

Afraid one of the new servants were playing it she’d gone to the hall.

He sat playing slowly, a soft melody that was happy yet somehow sad. A children’s melody his mother used to play to him as a child.

It had bought tears to her eyes.

Now he sat playing the same melody, slowly and hesitantly as he’d never been musically inclined.

Alexia, having finished her repast sat listening to him play a soft smile on her lips.

Across the room Lord and Lady Donovan sat playing a game of chance, the stakes silly things like hairpins and foot rubs.

Corrine smiled and went to the bar where Lucy stood making drinks for all.

Looking at Alexia watching Dimitri, she couldn’t miss the love shining in the young woman’s eyes.

She knew, hoped, prayed that soon, added to the sound of the piano playing would be the sound of children’s laughter echoing thorough the hall.

Chapter 27 Sunday, Nov 18 2007

Alexia hesitated for the briefest moment, her hand poised over the door handle before she entered the room.

Dimitri stood and immediately went to her.

Taking her hand in his he raised it to his lips, “Alexia, my sweet. I’m so glad you’ve finally arrived.” His eyes took in her slightly flushed countenance and he grinned, allowing his lips to linger on the soft skin of her hand.

She stared into his eyes, wondering if her heart would ever behave normally in his presence or would forever act as a butterfly trying to escape its prison.

She sighed softly as he released her hand, from disappointment or relief she could not say.

Maryanne hesitated just inside the doorway, a pink flush of embarrassment coming to her cheeks as she observed the betrothed couples private moment. She hated to interrupt but she’d been sent as somewhat of a chaperone, and pushing aside another small slightly green feeling emotion she cleared her throat to get their attention and walked forward.

“Lord Blaise,” she smiled as she approached, pretending not to notice Alexia’s embarrassed flush. “Thank you so very much for extending your hospitality to us. You have a lovely home.”

Dimitri smiled at the young woman, almost a miniature version of her mother in looks and in grace.

“I thank you for the compliment Lady Donovan. Though in truth, were it not for Corrine I should live in a sty.”

They both chuckled at that and Alexia smiled at the exchange, happy to see her new family getting along.

Dimitri offered his arm to the two of them, “Shall I take you on a tour ladies?” He asked.

Maryanne nodded, eager to see more of the house and Alexia agreed as well, though she cast a longing look at the buffet, piled with fragrant dishes full of food.

Maryanne giggled and pulled one of her niece’s curls. “She was too excited to breakfast this morning and it has caught up with her. Come show me what Alexia has seen and she can catch up with us when she has eaten.”

Dimitri agreed and escorted Maryanne out of the hall while Alexia sat to a steaming plate of eggs, sausage and a sweet corn pudding.

Chaper 26 Sunday, Nov 18 2007

The carriage came to a stop and the wagon, following close behind could be heard creaking to a halt as well.

Alexia looked around as a groom assisted her down from her seat atop the wagon. She tried not to wince as her sore legs protested and she felt a fleeting regret that she hadn’t ridden in the plush comfortable interior of the carriage.

As her feet were firmly placed on solid ground again, the Blaise head housekeeper Corrinne greeted her warmly.

“Greetings my Lady.” Corrinne smiled warmly and clasped Alexia’s hand briefly in hers. Her eyes twinkled merrily at her and Alexia had to resist the sudden urge to hug her.

Instead she returned the smile and squeezed her hand back.

Nodding in understanding she gestured toward the manor, answering the unspoken question. “He is in the dining hall waiting for you dearie.”

Flushing Alexia nodded and all but ran into the large double doors, not waiting as the housekeeper greeted her Uncle.

Alexia slowed to a stop outside the dining hall door. Smoothing her hands over her waist she took a calming breath before entering the room.

She hadn’t seen Dimitri since the day he proposed to her several weeks ago.

It wasn’t that they wanted to be apart; far from it in fact.

With all the preparations for her impending move and the wedding; which was to be held on the first of Winter and promised to be the event of the year, they barely had time for themselves let alone each other.

Dimitri was in constant meetings with his newly appointed advisor’s and could only dictate letters to her as he escaped to the garderobe or oversaw the completion of the throne room.

It was in one of his many letters that he informed her that his advisor’s wished to hold the royal inauguration the morning after the wedding. She’d been a bit taken aback at this. While dreaming of her wedding hadn’t been something she was wont to do, she nevertheless had no desire for it to be overshadowed by the crowning ceremony.

Too there was the thought that within hours of becoming a wife, she was also expected to become a queen.

Alive and kicking Friday, Nov 2 2007

Sorry it’s taking me so long to update.

I was having some writers/ simmers block issues.

I kept wanting to play a modern neighborhood so I took a break for a bit to create one for me and my cousin then i played for a bit and had to totally redo my saved sims folder then my downloads folder again. Then to top it off I had to do hers as well cause she’s not too computer literate.

And then of course BV came out so I had to get that in but did’nt want to play without Inteen so had to wait for that. Then my webhost was having issues. (Read: I forgot to pay and had to reinstate my account :/)

Suffice it to say that it’s been a hectic few months.

Now however I am back with a vengance. I’ve been simming so much it’s driving my hubby crazy. I’ll try to get a few updates out by this weekend. I’ve been writing tons of chapters but haven’t taken very many pictures. No worries though pictures are easy.

So, just wanted to let ya’ll know I am alive and kicking. {^_^}
